Department of Marine Geosciences and Territorial Planning

The Department of Marine Geosciences and Territorial Planning of the University of Vigo is made up of approximately a dozen permanent researchers and about twenty postgraduate students, from different fields of Earth Sciences, who are currently carrying out their research activity in the marine environment.

It is made up of the areas of knowledge Stratigraphy and External Geodynamics with the presence of renowned specialists in geochemistry, mineralogy, seismic, paleomagnetism and environmental magnetism, paleoceanography, marine and fluvial sedimentology, coastal engineering and environmental impact, giving it a unique research capacity. One of its main features is the application of advanced techniques to specific geological problems in the marine environment, which gives its studies a characteristic multidisciplinary approach. This has allowed it to develop its own methodology in geological oceanography, which gives it a pioneering role in the development of marine sedimentology in Spain, and the consequent international recognition.
